The Rivergarden dates back to 1678 and its gallery room overlooks the picturesque riverside at Thorpe St Andrew. The village is the birthplace of John Sell Cotman, who founded the Norwich School of artists with John Crome. Cotman’s painting On the River Yare – a view of the King’s Head gardens was painted from what is now the Rivergarden.
